Hello, beautiful! Yes – you! Reading this right now! If you’ve read my blog before I’m sure you’ve noticed I tend towards posting actionable pieces or tip pieces and don’t give tooooo much insight into my personal life. That’s the journalist in me. I really love writing that kind of stuff! (If you haven’t read my blog before then welcome! It’s nice to meet you!) I used to have a blog where I shared lots of photos of my babycakes – but I decided I didn’t think it was necessarily in her best interest to share her adorable face all over the internets for the world to see, so I’ve elected to reserve it for friends and family. By the time she’s a tween I’m sure she’ll be writing her own blog full of selfies and what not – but I will let her be the one to make that decision in the future.

Anywho – I figured why not throw in a fun post like this once in a while! I found this delightful link up and figured I would join the party! Here are a few things I am LOVING this Friday.

Kombucha

So I’m typically a little late in the food fad game. Not that I am not excited to try new things – because I am – and it really is part of my job as a writer to know what’s going on in the world and that includes food trends. It’s more like I just don’t reside in a mecca of foodie delights. I finally got my hands on some kombucha and I see what all the fuss was about! It’s funky and fizzy and weird and fun but mostly delicious.  Gingerberry Kombucha is my favorite of all of the flavors I’ve tried so far. Ginger is my jam.

Me Time!

Yes to all the me time! My husband was recently on a business trip and away for a week and, while I missed him dearly, I also enjoyed some quality time to myself! Knowing I didn’t need to rush home to make dinner and I could take my time meant I went to the gym EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. after work. ::self five:: My momming duties didn’t change much, as I am the bather and bedtimer, so babycakes and I got a lot of quality time in before she went to sleep. Then, it was also pretty great not having to fight over the TV or have all of his extra laundry to do. Heh. (Love you, sweetie!)

Zoodles

It’s supposed to be 100 degrees this Saturday in PA. ONE HUNDRED DEGREES. I’m obsessed with zoodles for dinner lately because they are light and fresh and way faster to cook than pasta. I made an awesome recipes for Thai Chicken Zoodles this week that I ate warm the first night, and then had the leftovers cold the next day. I’m telling you I think this was even better cold! YUM! And a big thanks to Krista at Joyful Healthy Eats for the fabulous recipe!

Smoothie Bowls

I love a good smoothie – or “moopy” as babycakes calles them – but as soon as I go for the blender she comes a runnin’ and will typically drink whatever I make before I can get a sip in! So I’ve been whipping up double batches, giving her some in a big girl cup with a straw and popping mine into a bowl. “Why did you put your smoothie in a bowl?” My husband asks – because toppings. My favorite combo lately is Chobani coconut yogurt, almond coconut milk, oats, chia seeds, a frozen banana, and spinach. Then I top it with berries, granola, and lots of toasted coconut. It’s fantastic.

Early Morning Long Runs

I’ve always been a fairly early riser. However, I’ve also always been of the mindset that I like to eat some breakfast and wake up a little before I excercise. I recently made a change. Training for a marathon when you have a husband that works 12 hour days AND a toddler doesn’t leave much wiggle room for scheduling long runs. So what’s a girl to do? She wakes up at 5:30am on a Saturday, puts on a bra and some running shoes, sips a glass of water, and heads out the door while her family is still fast asleep. I guess this kind of goes along with me time, but there is NO ONE around in my neighborhood this early. By the time I’m wrapping up people are finally out and about and grabbing their newspapers off the sidewalk – but these early morning long runs are one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! [Note: Photo is not me….obviously…but I didn’t want to not have a photo here. Also I would never wear a visor. I think they are silly and you should just wear a hat!]
